Model Based Animation – Nick Park

Nick Park was born on December 6^th 1958 and he is an English filmmaker of stop motion animation and he is best known for his work of Wallace and Gromit and Shaun the Sheep.

Below is a scene from Wallace and Gromit a grand day out which is the first of their 4 animated adventures created in 1989 as well as an image of Nick Parks himself creating all the models of the characters for the animation.

Shaun the Sheep first aired on CBBC in the UK in 2007. It has now been broadcast in 180 countries around the world. Below is an image of the character Shaun the sheep. Also there is an image of the characters on set being moved into position.

My animation


I think my animation worked quite well for an idea so simple. i didn't think it would turn out the way it did. Thank you for all the feedback you have given and i am glad you all like it and i will take into consideration your improvements i should make. To improve my animation i think i would re-save it so it was in better quality as at the moment it is a bit blurry when it is played in full screen. I will be re-saving my work in a better quality as when its played on the big screen it has a blurry image. Thank you for your feedback and i will post on here the same video but in better quality.

Animation Timeline 

• 1824: Peter Roget presented his paper 'The persistence of vision with regard to moving objects' to the British Royal Society.

• 1831:  Dr. Joseph Antoine Plateau (a Belgian scientist) and Dr. Simon Rittrer constructed a machine called a phenakitstoscope. This machine produced an illusion of movement by allowing a viewer to gaze at a rotating disk containing small windows; behind the windows was another disk containing a sequence of images. When the disks were rotated at the correct speed, the synchronization of the windows with the images created an animated effect.

• 1889: Thomas Edison announced his creation of the kinetoscope which projected a 50ft length of film in approximately 13 seconds.

• 1906: J. Stuart Blackton made the first animated film which he called "Humorous phases of funny faces." His method was to draw comical faces on a blackboard and film them. He would stop the film, erase one face to draw another, and then film the newly drawn face. The Ôstop-motionÕ provided a starting effect as the facial expressions changed be fore the viewerÕs eyes. 

• 1911: Winsor McCay produced an animation sequence using his comic strip character "Little Nemo."

• 1914: Winsor McCay produced a cartoon called "Gertie, The Trained Dinosaur" which amazingly consisted of 10,000 drawings.

• 1928: Walt Disney created the first cartoon with synchronized sound called "Steam Boat Willy".

• 1937: Walt Disney’s snow white is released. 

• 1989: Wallace and gromit was first broadcast.

• 1993: Jurassic Park use of CG for realistic living creatures.

• 1995: Toy Story first full-length 3D CG feature film.

• 2005: corpse bride is released.

• 2009 fantastic Mr Fox is released.

• 2010 despicable me is released.

• 2011 Arthur Christmas is released.

My final movie


here is my final movie including the soundtrack:

I made my movie in istopmotion by taking 4 pictures of my bear in each outfit so that the final product would not go as fast as it would if i only took one. i then took a picture each time i moved my hand to make it look like I'm clicking my fingers which made him change outfits. I then added titles to my animation using imovie like in the pictures below.

This picture shows me adding my transitions between the title and the actual animation.

This shows me changing the text font and colour of my title of the animation. 

This shows me changing the text font and colour of the end credits of my animation.

This shows me downloading my soundtrack Teddy bears picnic into itunes which i then added to my animation and i faded it out towards the end of my animation.

Below is the image i will be using for the background of my animation. It is a picture i took in the lanehouse woods in Cumbria when i went on a school trip 2 years ago. It is apart of the teddy bear in the woods theme.

Titles and Credits for my animation


Below is a screenshot of my titles and credits that i have created in iMovie.
The title of my animation is Huggie the quick changing bear.
I have used the effects circle open which will lead to my animation being played after.
For the beginning credits i have used the centered credits and for the end of the animation i have used scrolling credits.
